About me

About

I'm Zsolt Hodovány, a clinical health psychologist and hypnotherapist-in-training.

Psychological work and self-care are important parts of a balanced life. Paying attention to ourselves can help us better understand our difficulties, process emotional blocks, and strengthen our overall well-being. At times, support from an external professional perspective can be valuable in this process – this is where I can offer my assistance.

Psychological research has shown that the relationship between client and therapist is, in itself, a significant healing factor (Bordin, 1979; Norcross & Lambert, 2019).

For this reason, I place particular importance on creating a safe, accepting, and authentic connection.

Throughout our work, I approach my clients with openness, empathy, and understanding, drawing on psychodynamic and health psychology perspectives. I also integrate hypnotherapeutic techniques into the psychological process, which I have learned in the Hungarian Hypnosis Association and through my own self-development work.

In addition to psychological counselling, I also conduct psychological assessments, including assessment interviews, and the Rorschach inkblot-test. Please note that I am not authorized to issue clinical opinions.

I also facilitate self-awareness groups and skills-development workshops, and I welcome inquiries about these services.

Approach

How I work

In the first sessions we agree together on the framework, goals, and likely duration of our work.

Accepting presence

I aim to create a safe and understanding atmosphere where you can feel heard, accepted, and supported.

Psychodynamic perspective

I believe that gaining a deeper understanding of recurring emotional and relational patterns can create opportunities for new ways of relating, feeling, and responding.

Health Psychology Approach

Physical and psychological processes are closely interconnected. I support clients facing chronic illness, stress, pain, and lifestyle changes, drawing on a health psychology perspective to promote well-being and resilience.

Hypnotherapeutic Techniques

Hypnotherapeutic techniques can help deepen awareness of emotions and inner experiences. The hypnotic state may promote relaxation, reduce stress, and support overall well-being.

FAQ

Frequently asked

There is no "big enough" problem. If you feel stuck, overwhelmed, or simply want to understand yourself better — it's a good decision to reach out. In the first interview (typically 2–3 sessions) we clarify together what you need.
Counselling is shorter and focused on a specific situation. Psychotherapy is deeper, longer-term work aimed at lasting change and personal development.
We shape this together. Counselling usually runs 10–20 sessions. Deeper themes can call for a longer psychological process.
Both work. Online sessions are available from anywhere — important that you have a space where therapeutic confidentiality is protected. In person we meet in Budapest. Thursdays are online only.
Yes. Psychologist confidentiality covers everything we discuss; rare exceptions are the cases defined by law (e.g. immediate danger to life, certain criminal matters).
The first few sessions form a clinical first interview: we get to know each other and decide together on next steps — counselling, hypnotherapy work, or a referral to another specialist (e.g. psychiatrist, clinical psychologist).
The therapeutic agreement is a shared verbal commitment between client and therapist about the framework of the process: duration, frequency, method and goals. This agreement may evolve during the work.
